It is with great joy that I, Marcia Christen, (AIT); in accord with Kathleen Macferran, Assessor; Roxy Manning, Assessor; Mika Maniwa, (AIT); Jennifer Warnick (AIT); and the members of the Trainer Candidate Community Path (TCCP) recommend Darcy Lockhart to take on the role of Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication!
I first heard of Darcy when Kathleen Macferran and Jared Finkelstein traveled to Juneau AK, land of Tlingit and Haida tribes, to support this community organizer. Darcy was assisting training in an organization that served survivors of domestic violence and had years of organizing support for communities, especially for women, planting seeds in many communities! Later, I met Darcy in person and had a felt sense of her warmth and presence. Over the years I watched that presence grow, along with her ability to create a container for connection to happen. Darcy’s dedication to the study of nonduality and healing touch has helped her integration of the consciousness of NVC and supported her practice so that she consistently shows up with curiosity, the intention to connect and an openness to outcome. I have experienced her ability to empathize with a thoughtful and heartful manner across many situations of varying levels of intensity.
Darcy has been formally sharing NVC with students at her local University among other settings. Students have been deeply engaged, sharing feedback that Darcy’s teaching was their favorite part of the communication class. The TCCP community has experienced Darcy’s willingness to look at the impacts that immersion in domination culture has had on her and others. We have benefited from her sharing her learning about her internalization of these life-alienating strategies and their impact on connection and nonviolence. Darcy’s dedication to lifelong learning is also inspiring to many and a catalyst for other people’s learning. She dove into the work of many trainers, far surpassing the minimum number of hours of training requested of candidates before becoming certified trainers. In order to deepen her understanding of one of the many competencies she agreed would be important for a Certified Trainer to possess, Darcy invited others to join her in a group she to practice and explore mediation, based on years of integrating all the course work she had taken on NVC mediation.
Darcy has also contributed to the organizational systems work within TCCP by serving on the Economic Stewardship Council. I have watched her internalization of the shift from moralistic judgment to value based judgment and how that shift has contributed to the community. We trust Darcy’s love of learning and exploring, of questioning and increasing awareness will continue and will serve our greater community.
We have also been touched at how Darcy’s journey has affected not just the TCCP and her local community, but also her family of origin. It was very heartwarming to hear that Darcy’s niece let Darcy know that Darcy’s efforts to support healing in their family were seen, and that she wanted to join Darcy in continued healing! What a legacy to pass on – a quality of presence where all Needs are held with care and Needs are met by natural giving! We celebrate Darcy joining the community of trainers and for being in this world!
